We got COVID after VAX
Quarantine….and…. chill?
With two kids home from school, a self-isolated husband in our bedroom....ya.... right!
Very happy to report that we came out of the dark COVID cloud that was cast over our home. Thankfully (like beyond thankful) our family is alive and well. We're vaccinated, we laid low, followed all precautions which I know helped us get healthy, faster.
So what exactly happened??
My husband Bretts symptoms started with a cough, which for him, someone who suffers from year round allergies, wasn't unusual. I had got myself a new perfume and asked him what he thought, that’s when he had his first suspicion that it was something wasn’t right because he was having a hard time picking up the scent. It progressively got worse and he was losing his taste slowly. He scheduled a rapid COVID test and within 2-minutes his results came back positive. He immediately started his self-isolation in our bedroom when he got home.
I cleaned and sanitized and cooked…..and then did it all again, and again. It reminded me of Spring 2020 because we felt that crazy fear again. Our lives changed in an instant and we were all isolated from the outside world. Having to make do, creatively entertaining ourselves in the same four walls for days on end. The highlight for sure was Stevie’s birthday, and in a way, I’m so thankful we had that during our quarantine period because it gave us all something to focus on and look forward to. We baked a cake together, open presents and the kids had tons of new fun toys to play with, it really helped pass the time.
The kids stayed healthy! Not even a runny nose, thankfully. I made masks and cleanliness a huge priority all week. As for me, my symptoms were different than Brett's. Mine were more physical, my body was just in a lot of pain and I was tired... but I'm always a little fatigued taking care of two small kids, I think that's why I didn't know right away. When I couldn’t stand for more than a few minutes is when I questioned it myself. I was able to get in for a rapid test but my results were negative. It was hard, I had to be the strong one for my husband, my kids and myself but wasn't feeling great either. Thankfully the physical pain let up and I began having mild cold symptoms, just like Brett. A cold was a dream compared to the soreness and fatigue I had been living with. Also like Brett, our taste and smell was starting to diminish so I got in for another rapid tests, but again tested negative. I began to think I was going crazy.
The PCR COVID tests were hardly available during our quarantine week, that’s why I took rapid tests. COVID had really picked up and was circulating quickly through our community - FINALLY I was able to schedule a PCR test appointment and after 3 days of waiting, found out that I did have covid too... I wasn't crazy after all! Thankfully it was over by then anyways, I had passed ten days of symptoms but it was a little reassuring to hear that all the precautions we had taken were for good reason. Being vaccinated and "healthy", my symptoms were manageable and improved quickly. But I don’t for one minute want to downplay the virus, she sucks and I don’t wish it on anyone.
Notes...now that we’ve gone through it:
-Wear a mask. I wish I would have been wearing one. Being fully vaccinated, I had definitely been living with a false sense of security.
-Eat lots of real foods and stock up on vitamins. I did tons of green juice, especially with ginger. Vitamins we took and I will continue taking: vitamin A, vitamin C, zinc, D3, Turmeric and Wellness Formula. I also took Melatonin every night to ensure a good night sleep.
-Utilize helpful services like Door Dash, Uber Eats, Instacart and Target Curbside. These made my life so much easier.
-Lots of water! Lots of rest! Haha, I tried my best.
-Epsom Salt baths helped me tremendously! I soaked when I was in a lot of physical pain and again at night right before bed which helped my muscles relax and I slept better.
